  • job hunting

There are a lot of young people looking for full-time and part-time jobs.  The economy is not favorable for employee growth in small retail stores.  I have had several young people come into my business looking for employment but unfortunately I do not have anything available.  I have had one person come and drop off a very nicely done resume.  That is usually not the case.  Most come in dressed very poorly.  Holes in their jeans, not appearing neat, hair not combed, cap on sideways.  They do not introduce themselves just come in and ask if there are any jobs available.  I am from a different generation where first impressions are very important.  At least leave a job inquiry by leaving a good first impression.  Leave with the owner or manager thinking that person would have fit my business well.  Not leave with the owner or manager thinking I would not hire them even if there was an opening available.  Enter a business with a friendly thought-out approach.  Not asking "you are not hiring are you?"  That makes it very easy to say NO.  It seems these young people have not been properly instructed on how to look for a job.  Or they do not think it is important.  I would encourage young people to take more seriously the art of seeking a job.  It just might open a door you did not expect.  Happy Job Hunting!

  • Reflecting back on my sons growing up I am beginning to realize the enormity of the very short time we really have to raise our gifts from God.  You begin as two strangers leaving together and trying to get to know each other.  A child blesses you and you begin to realize you were not as smart as you thought you were.  From rolling over to crawling to walking to running, from no touching what's on the table, from first words, teaching politeness (I am a TEXAN and from the south), from please and thank you, first day of school and graduation from high school, to moving out on their own, to getting married.  In all that time you are teaching your values to them.  Going to Sunday School and Church and to all the kid ministries.  Lessons at home that are entangled with the behavior that is seen in the public schools.  Yet still trying to teach with more questions being asked and explanations sometimes not very meaningful.  Praying that God has put his imprint on their lives.  That their choices would be according to the standards found in scripture.  And yet looking back you are trying to be a husband, a father, a businessman, Sunday School teacher, an officer in the church, a youth leader, five summer vacations spent with the kids of the church, and wondering if you didn't spend enough time with you own kids.  Knowing even as adults your kids are still making tough choices.  Are they going to church?  Are they involved in Bible Study?  How are they handling their money?  Where do they hang out?  Are they influencing or being influenced?  What are their priorities?  Do they love their parents?  Is family important to them?  All these questions and it seems sometimes no answers.  Realization sets in.

Who is in control?  Me or God?  God's pace is different from mine.  His wisdom is greater than mine.  He is in control and he wants me to realize that and depend on Him.  He instructed me and I instructed the boys.  God gives the growth.  May I not look and judge myself but rely on God and God alone.  The cross casts a strong and mighty shadow and I need to rest in it completely and with no anxiety.

  • The unexpected

Watch the expression on a manager's face at a fast food place when you go up to the counter after you have eaten and tell them that they actually gave you too much change.  Disbelief covers their face.  They are in so disbelief they don't even know what to say.

    I say Praise Jesus!

  • Praise The Lord

I just want to praise and thank God for the great business He has showered upon our business.   He is such an awesome God.  I pray that i WILL PRAISE AND THANK gOD IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.  His light shines brightly and I pray I will not lose sight of that light.

  • Sandy 2nd verse

Sandy called today and asked if it was all right with me if she stayed another 2 weeks.  I quickly told that would be great.  I encouraged tell to keep taking care of our family.  I know she wants to be here with me but she knows she is needed at Jamie's to help out with Cody.  I praise and thank God for a wife that cares that much.

Sandy being gone is like fasting.  I have directed a lot of my time pondering the mystery of God's word.  It is exciting to be comforted and encouraged by the awesome word of God.

I pray Sandy will minister to the kids and they will understand the depth of her love.

I will enjoy our time together this weekend.

As God teaches and reveals His truth to me I will share His lessons.

It is only through the power of God ,not through any power I have, that I am able to read, study, and enjoy His word.
